FUNDRAISING – THANKYOU ERIE BEACH AND FRIENDS OF SILVER LAKE – 2014

The Erie Beach Hotel this past March 6 held its yearly Benefit Buffet. With this “Benefit Buffet” the Erie Beach shares proceeds of the day with participating community organizations.

The Friends of Silver Lake wish to give a whole-hearted “Thanks” to both the Erie Beach for this fine gesture of giving back to the Community; and also to those Friends of Silver Lake who attended and enjoyed a buffet of the Erie Beach’s finest. We had even more Friends enjoying the Buffet this year than last. We appreciate the support of our Friends of Silver Lake during the time the matter of repairing Misner Dam and restoring Silver Lake has been dragging out.

That being said, all Friends of Silver Lake, stay alert for word that the Consultant’s options report for Misner Dam is finally to be tabled for Council’s guidance. (It did have a February due-date.) We can be encouraged by statements that MNR is ready to assist Council with short-term options.

 Once again, Thanks to All!

To all members of the Port Dover Waterfront Preservation Association and Friends of Silver Lake.

The Erie Beach Hotel each year gives back to its Community by holding a Benefit Buffet.

By courtesy of The Erie Beach Hotel’s community-mindedness, The Friends of Silver Lake,  Paris-Port Dover Pipe Band, and the Lakeshore School are hosting an Erie Beach Charity Buffet, featuring Lake Erie Perch in the Terrace Room on Thursday, March 6, 2014. We, the Friends of Silver Lake, have 100 tickets for five seating times: 5:00, 5:30, 6:00, 6:30, and 7:00 pm. Tickets are $25 per person (tax included). A portion ($12.00) of the proceeds go toward the cause of Silver Lake.

As you know, we continue to face delay and uncertainty in getting our Lake restored. We must face that prospect with a firm determination to hang in there and succeed! Let’s sell those 100 tickets! Make up a party of six or eight friends, request your tickets, and enjoy a good feast of perch while helping the cause of restoring our Lake.

Silver Lake Living Up to Its Name

Thanks to recent rain and cooler temperatures, Tim was able to provide us with a small glimpse of the end of the Lake bringing back memories of its former glory days minus the stench and still reflecting artistic beauty. Certainly a rare scene in 2013.

On Behalf of Ron Keating, Treasurer

Dear Member

On behalf of the Association, I thank you for your 2012-13 membership and bring to your attention that it is now time for membership renewal for 2013-14

Caring people, such as yourself, are the foundation of our organization. We hope that for 2013-14 you can renew your membership with our community of citizens concerned with the Waterfront and Misner Dam/Silver Lake. Membership dues play a significant role in achieving our goal, to preserve and protect the waterfront areas of our community. Ongoing items having the potential to significantly impact our waterfront areas remain as: Misner Dam repair and Silver Lake remediation; the West Pier Lighthouse; and the Marina, which gave rise to this Association at its very beginning. The PDWPA continues to actively advocate on your behalf with the County. We remain optimistic with the endeavours of each project, and we need your ongoing support.

Hopefully you are already aware of our Perch Dinner Fundraiser this coming October 23. If not, I have included a flyer for it with this note. Please consider renewing your membership as you attend. If attendance is not possible, please consider forwarding a renewal membership fee of $20 (cheques made out to “PDWPA”) and forwarded to Ron Keating or Paul Lipsit.

Again, we thank you for your support in the past and trust that you can once again provide the PDWPA and Friends of Silver Lake with your renewed support.

Yours Truly

EARNING OUR WAY HOME TO SILVER LAKE HEAVEN

Silver Lake Heaven

Thank you Tracybphotography! You have captured “Heaven” in our own little space on earth. Getting to keep it here will cost money. With help from our landmark local businesses, generous residents,  visitors, and corporate sponsors,  we will preserve heaven on Ontario’s south coast for future generations.

THANK YOU ERIE BEACH HOTEL AND THE SCHNEIDER FAMILY

From the Friends Of Silver Lake  (A sub-committee of the Port Dover Waterfront Enhancement Association)

On February 27, 2012  the Erie Beach Hotel sponsored a charity fund raiser for Port Dover Composite School and for the Friends of Silver Lake.

The Friends of Silver Lake  thank Andrew  Schneider and the Erie Beach employees for a wonderful dinner and evening where we  reminisced and shared our stories about Silver Lake over an amazing pickerel buffet dinner! We also thank the Norfolk community members who supported this event.

Committee members Peter Slamen and Diane Leaker were on hand to receive a cheque for $1775 presented by Doug Long on behalf of the Schneider Family.

It is clear that local businesses recognize the importance of Silver Lake as a key resource for tourism and economic development in Norfolk.

Together as a community we must save the lake to honour our heritage, for the enjoyment  of our families and friends and as our gift to future generations.
